Why Remote?

Remote and async work is more respectful: Respectful of everyone's work hours, focus, and timezones. More people have a chance to contribute when you work asynchronously.

Remote and async work is more inclusive: Not everyone likes to think on their toes, or feels comfortable speaking up. Writing, however, is generally easier to invite others to contribute. It is also easier to make it more accessible (text can be more easily read via Text-to-speech, whereas transcriptions are usually worse in quality).

Remote and async work is more intentional: When you're forced to stop, think, and write, your ideas, comments, and suggestions become more intentional and valuable.

Why I offer this

I've helped tens of companies and hundreds of people work more effectively and productively by adopting Remote and async work methodologies. I can teach you too.

First (free) tips

Focus on more writing, less talking: From planning to writing emergency postmortems, to analyzing development cycles or weekly updates, all of these things should be written and not just talked about. It allows more people to collaborate and learn from, later.

Focus on more docs, less instant messages: When discussions happen over instant messaging, they tend to be shallow and prone to knee-jerk reactions. When they happen in documents, they tend to be more complete and thorough.

Focus on more intention, less distraction: Ditching expectations of real-time replies or presence enables everyone to plan their days and weeks more intentionally.
